Information for Legal Nurse Consultants

Legal Nurse Consultants & Their Powerful Role

Legal nurse consulting plays a powerful role in the litigation process by bridging the gap between medicine and the judicial system. Legal nurse consultants are licensed RNs with specialized training and they use their clinical experience and specialized education to interpret, research and analyze medical-related issues relevant to a legal case or claim. Based on their investigations, they provide an informed opinion on the delivery of health care and its results.

As consultants, legal nurses serve as analysts, collaborators, strategists, researchers and educators.  With their in-depth knowledge of nursing, medicine and the healthcare system, their contributions are recognized in all types of medical-legal cases or claims across all medical-legal settings. As such, LNCs are uniquely qualified and valuable members of the legal team.

Knowledge. The legal nurse consultant has a thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical treatment and disease processes.

Experience. The legal nurse consultant has extensive clinical experience, which includes interpretation of medical records and medical literature.

Wendy Votroubek, RN, MPH, LNC

Portland, OR

Integrity Legal Nurse Consulting: Wendy Votroubek, RN, MPH, LNC has been an RN for over 30 years with experience in acute care and long term care settings as well as ambulatory and home health care. She is currently a clinical instructor for University of Portland School of Nursing in the medical surgical rotation (sub acute and long-term care setting). In addition, she has written three nursing textbooks, as well as numerous articles and book chapters.

Integrity Legal Nurse Consulting was founded after Wendy observed health care institutions doing more with less. Her goal then became to educate and empower attorney clients, so they could more easily understand medical chart notes and related issues.

Wendy grew up in Southern California, where she received her undergraduate nursing degree from California State University at Long Beach and her Master’s in Public Health from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She lives in Portland, Oregon, is the proud parent of her college-aged daughter and feels fortunate to be surrounded by the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty.
